Important: Let us know in your cover letter if you’ve floated before, and (whether or not you have) what you think is most interesting about it. (Previous float experience is nice but not required.)
We’re looking for one Shop Manager to start as soon as possible.
You will supervise our team of Float Facilitators, who instruct clients and maintain the float rooms. Our clients look forward for days to their appointments; they go in their appointments tense and you will help them emerge relaxed and smiling.
FLOAT is a friendly, professional, welcoming and enthusiastic wellness environment. Since 2015, we have provided flotation REST services to the public for stress management and personal spiritual exploration.
While the feeling we aim to evoke may be relaxed, we will expect professionalism and respect of clients and fellow staff members. We will let our staff and customers be who they are regardless of orientation, race, size or gender, and work hard to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment for everyone. We encourage diversity among our small staff, to better serve a wide range of clients.
Duties include: You will maintain the shift schedule and supervise our staff of float facilitators, including reviewing timecards and participating in training and hiring. Normally you will be expected to schedule yourself for 2-3 regular shifts per week as a float facilitator, taking more as necessary (up to 40 hours/week) to cover sick calls or vacations. You will have primary responsibility for maintaining the float center, including monitoring the condition of the float tanks, doing regular ordering of shop supplies and inventory, and ensuring facility problems are handled with escalations/outside repair calls as necessary. You will have authority to book and schedule repairs below an agreed dollar limit. You will have responsibility and authority to resolve customer service issues. Five days per week you will be the “manager on call” to resolve staffing and maintenance problems. The owners are involved in the business and will be available to train and support you as necessary.
The ideal qualified candidate will have at least two years of manager experience, be familiar with the health and wellness industry, be detail-oriented, care strongly about cleanliness, and communicate well by email and in person. CPR training is a plus. We’d like you to be interested in and willing to learn about float therapy, and care and maintenance of float tanks.
Physical requirement: must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs up a flight of stairs (that’s a bag of salt.) You must be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Pay: $50k per year plus bonuses up to $2500 per quarter. This is a full-time, salaried position.
Benefits: 80 hours of PTO per year. Flexible hours provided that the work gets done.
Retirement IRA with matching contributions.
Floating for free is a perk of this job — and also a requirement! We understand that very few people here have actually floated before, and that is not expected of job candidates. But we want you to be able to talk to our customers about it, so we will make time for you to float frequently.
We are looking for someone with commitment to the wellness industry and our business, and will provide an ownership stake after two years.
Details: Probationary period of three months, to make sure it’s a good fit for all of us.
The job is located at FLOAT, 515 Medford St, Somerville, MA 02145.
