Cryotherapy
FAQ
Cryotherapy is safe, effective and works on almost anyone. See our FAQ below for more information!
1. What is localized cryotherapy?
Localized cryotherapy uses controlled, focused cold to treat a specific area of the body—such as the face, abdomen, joints, or scalp. Unlike whole-body cryotherapy, localized sessions allow us to target aesthetics, pain relief, nervous-system regulation, and inflammation with precision.
2. What services do you offer?
We currently offer six specialized cryotherapy treatments:
Body Contouring – targets stubborn fat pockets and supports lymphatic drainage.
Frotox Cryo Facial – smooths, tightens, and brightens the skin for an instant refreshed look.
Vagus Nerve Stimulation – encourages calm, balance, and parasympathetic activation.
Pain & Inflammation Relief – reduces swelling, soreness, and joint discomfort.
Anti-Anxiety Cryo Session – supports mood, clarity, and stress reduction.
Acne Calming Cryo Facial – reduces redness, swelling, and irritation in acne-prone skin.
3. How does cryotherapy work?
Cryotherapy triggers a rapid cooling effect on the skin—called thermal shock—which prompts your body to constrict blood vessels and decrease inflammation. As the area rewarms, increased circulation brings oxygen and nutrients that support healing, collagen production, mood balance, and clearer skin.
4. What does a cryotherapy session feel like?
Clients usually describe it as very cold but refreshing. The cold is dry, not wet, so it feels much more tolerable than ice baths. Afterward, you may feel a warm, tingling sensation as blood flow returns.
5. Is cryotherapy safe?
Yes—when performed by trained staff with professional equipment. Sessions are short, controlled, and continuously monitored. We move the device constantly and follow strict temperature/timing guidelines to protect your skin and nerves. We also had a master trainer fly out and give us personalized training so that we knew we were giving our clients the safest experience in the greater Boston area.
6. Who should avoid cryotherapy?
We may decline or modify treatment if you have:
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Raynaud’s disease
Severe cold sensitivity or cold allergies
Open wounds or infections in the treatment area
Peripheral neuropathy (loss of sensation)
Pregnancy (for most services)
If you’re unsure, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider.
7. How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals:
Pain & inflammation: people often feel relief after 1–3 sessions. But it depends on your goals.
Aesthetics: Best if done in 6-10 sessions split up by 5 to 7 days.
Anxiety/Vagus stimulation: can be done as needed or regularly for ongoing nervous-system support.
8. How long do results last?
Immediate results—like reduced swelling or brighter skin—may last days to weeks.
Longer improvements require consistency, especially for aesthetics or chronic pain.
9. Can cryotherapy help me lose weight?
Cryotherapy alone does not cause weight loss. Body contouring can help with shape, skin smoothness, and stubborn fat pockets, but it must be paired with healthy habits for best results.
10. What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear clothing that allows access to the area we’re treating. We’ll provide towels, draping, and protective gear where needed.
11. Is there any downtime?
No. Most clients return to normal activities immediately. Temporary redness or mild tingling is normal and fades quickly.
12. Can I combine cryotherapy with floating?
Absolutely. Minus the Anti-Anxiety treatment, the order should be Float then Cryo. Popular combinations:
Frotox + Float for deep relaxation and glowing skin
Pain & Inflammation + Float for full-body recovery
Anti-Anxiety + Float for enhanced calm, this is best done pre-float.
Vagus Cryo + Meditation for nervous-system support
We can help you plan the order for maximum benefit.
13. How often can I do cryotherapy?
Pain & Inflammation: can be done as often as needed, even the same day. A lot of athletes will do treatments before, during and after their sport.
Vagus Nerve Stimulation: can be done 3x/week.
- Anti-Anxiety: can be done as often as needed
- Acne Calming: can be done 1x/week.
- Body Contouring & Frotox: Should be scheduled every 5-7 days, 6-10 sessions total. Then every 6 months as needed.
