Floating removes you from the outside world and gives your mind the freedom to wander wherever it wants to go. When you float, you don’t have anything you need to do.

There’s nothing you need to work on.

You have a space where you can lie down, removed from the pressure of thinking, discussing, or participating in anything at all. It’s an environment that exists almost completely opposite our current plugged-in, sensory-driven way of life.

In a float tank, you have the opportunity to be more mindful than pretty much any other environment in the world.

How Floating Dissolves Stress

Even without the existential malaise of living through global crisis, our modern way of life tends to exert a lot of pressure on most people. As mental health research evolves, it’s become apparent that what we call “stress” can actually cause a lot of health problems; not just physical problems like heart disease and high blood pressure (although those are certainly significant), but also mental health issues like PTSD, depression, and eating disorders.

Floating and Autism

For this discussion of introducing floating successfully to a person with autism, we’re welcoming guest blogger Amanda Maginley, owner of Nepsis Floatation in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Hi there. I’m a mom of two autistic teenagers and started floating them about 5 years ago. I opened my own float Center this year. I’m also trained in behaviour and have worked in our school system as a TA and observer of behaviour.

Floating has improved our lives significantly. It has helped me be a better parent, reducing my stress and helping me function better, and helped my kids with increasing awareness and emotional regulation.

Holiday Hours 2019

Hey everybody! We hope your holidays are as fun and low-stress as possible. Here’s our schedule:

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 28th: closed

Thanksgiving weekend: open as usual

Christmas Eve, Tuesday December 24th: first appointment at 1pm and last appointment at 3pm.* Walk-in gift cards available starting at 9:30am.

Christmas Day, Wednesday December 25th: closed

New Year’s Eve, Tuesday December 31st: first appointment at 1pm and last appointment at 5pm*

New Year’s Day, Wednesday January 1st: opening late at 1pm

*These super short Tuesdays are from having to move our regular cleaning days around due to Wednesday holidays.

Remember – gift certificates are available 24/7 at floatboston.com/gift! For the person who has everything, give them the gift of nothing. You can even schedule them to be sent at any time. Gift list: handled.

Update: On Christmas Eve, Tuesday 12/24, you can buy gift certificates in person from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Appointments will start at 1pm.
